Motoring in France and Spain

 

Eu law, French(Code de la Route)and Spanish(Código deTráfico Seguridad Vial) make carrying certain items compulsory.
Compulsory
UK Driving Licence
Must be at least 18 with full UK driving licence for the class of vehicle.
Carry passport in the vehicle for photo proof of id.

Vehicle Car registration document V5
Owner's written permission if the driver is not the vehicle owner.
Green Card
Must show minimum insurance cover requirement for Europe.
Headlamp Adaptors
Beams adjusted to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers(day or night).

New: UK Sticker or UK with Union Flag identifier number plate.
Sticker should be fixed on the rear of the vehicle
or the number plate.
GB and E
uro Flag identifiers must be covered or removed.
Warning Triangle.
Must be placed at least 30m behind the vehicle, where safe to do so.
New:
1 Jan 2026 Spain replaces warning triangle for V16 Rotating
Yellow or Orange Beacon Light.
Carried inside the glove box and used either on the vehicle's roof or side.
Reflective Jacket(s) for each passenger kept inside
vehicle..
Spare set of bulbs.

peed Detectors illegal. Sat Navs should
only feature safety zones.
Crit'Air Vehicle Air Quality Cerificate(some French cities).
